A very special and courageous woman needs your help.
If you know Cathy Lucero, you know how truly amazing, kind and generous she is. Cathy was born and raised in New Mexico and has been in the education field for over 25 years. During her career, she has been helping special needs students as a teacher and now helping many other students as an Elementary & Middle School Principal.
In October 2015, Cathy felt a lump in her right breast. After having an MRI, doctors diagnosed her with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. In November, Cathy received her port which she named "Holly" after Holly Holm, the New Mexico Native Boxer/UFC Champion. "Holly" is Cathy's Battle-Buddy in her fight against breast cancer. She chose to name her port after the Boxer/UFC Fighter because of her strength, dedication and willing to fight!
Holly Holm is one of Cathy's idols and one of her dreams is to someday meet Holly Holm.
As of December 17, 2015, Cathy has now undergone 3 Chemotherapy treatments at the Cancer Center of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is expected to have 13 more chemotherapy treatments and surgery in later months.
Cathy has touched the lives of many people and now we can return the favor. Not only is cancer a tough battle, but it is a costly one. While our family is extremely blessed to have health insurance, there are still many out-of-pocket expenses that we have and will incur on Cathy's long road ahead. We understand that many people cannot afford to contribute a lot, but any amount you can donate is graciously accepted.
Your contributions will help our family cover the many unexpected (and expected) costs that arise, including transportation costs to and from treatments and making Cathy more comfortable both in the hospital and at home. If you are unable to donate, prayers for her health and well-being are greatly appreciated.
