My dad was just diagnosed with Heterotopic ossification (HO), a rare disease that causes extraskeletal bone to form in muscle and soft tissues. It's a severely painful disease with no cure. Rod Cowles unexpectedly became paralyzed from the waist down. Caused by a medical emergency which is not fully understood nor treated until after he became paralyzed. Rod is 71 years old and lives alone in Oklahoma, and this recent development affects his health and ability to provide for his needs.

My Dad is the most incredible person I know. As a chiropractic doctor, he helped countless patients and provided care to patients who could not pay. He is the kind of man who has taken in and mentored international high school and college students for over 25 years. He cares for his community and his family deeply. Rod is a very active and independent person, but he cannot work or care for himself right now.
