My beautiful mama, Barbara, has been diagnosed with colon cancer. On behalf of my family, I'm reaching out for support so that we can do everything in our power to keep my mom around for her 5 kids and family. 

Here's her story...

In March of 2021, my mom went in for testing for mild abdominal pain. The ultrasound flagged a liver nodule, prompting several CT scans and the discovery of a large mass in her colon. Two biopsies later, countless virtual appointments and much waiting, in May of 2021, we finally received confirmation of mom's stage 4 colon cancer, which has spread to her liver and lungs.

In Canada, the 5 year survival rate for stage 4 colon cancer is 12%. Without chemotherapy, the doctors confirmed that my mom will not make it past 1 year.
Surgery has been taken off the table, with the goal of chemo to arrest her metastases first. Mom will start chemo within the next few weeks, and with urgency, we want to equip her as much as possible to give her a fighting chance. As we prepare for this climb, our research has led us to integrative approaches in fighting her cancer (alongside chemo), many of which have proven positive progress in late stage cancers such as my mom's. The issue is that these treatments are expensive and pose a financial strain on my family.

As a whole, we are shaken. At 58 years old, my mom is the last person who should be going through this. Barb is a strong, fun-loving, silly, generous and loving soul who deserves to live. This cancer has been a never ending nightmare, but we have NOT given up hope. My mom will climb and conquer this mountain with her children, family and loved ones by her side.
