Takota's Medical Bills
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
Recently our beloved lesson pony Takota needed emergency veterinarian and hospilization care and I'm asking for help to cover her medical bills.
About 10 days ago a staff member noticed Takota acting strangely in the turnout field. Upon closer examination by staff it appeared that Takota was experiencing an episode of colic. For those of you who don't know colic can be a very painful and dangerous condition. Horses' gastric lines work only one way-in through the mouth and out the back end. There is no throwing up for horses. Colic covers several painful conditions such as severe gas bloat or worse, an bowel obstruction. Upon exam by the on-call vet it was recommended that Takota be taken to the horse hospital, Marion Dupont Equine medical center in Leesburg. We loaded her up and got her to the emergency room. Upon initial exam, it was determined that there was likely a bowel obstruction. Surgery was discussed. While the surgery itself is often not too difficult the recovery afterwards is long and beset with obstacles. The hospital agreed to take a wait-and-see approach. After 2 days of round-the-clock care, Takota finally started to poop!! (Horse people-we love to see our horses poop)! Everyone was relieved. After 4 days in the hospital, Takota was able to come home. Between the on-call vet service and her hospitalization, Takota's medical bills are about $4500.00. I'm hoping those who love and ride her can help me pay some of the bills
For those of you who know Takota you know how wonderful she is and how much the students love her!! She is a wonder pony! If we receive more than the original amount the money will go to offset ongoing meds and supplements for our lesson horses.
Feel free to share with anyone you wish. I thank you for any help you can give!!!
