Mom, Dad and Daughter Taken at Lapu Lapu Day - Help Sons

*This fundraiser is being managed by Ana Caicedo, cousin of Glitza Daniela and Alejandro Samper, niece of Glitza Maria Caicedo and Daniel Samper. We (Alejandro, Jordan, and the members of the Samper-Caicedo family) are creating a new bank account this week under Alejandro's name where the funds from this fundraiser will be directly deposited into.

Our beloved family members Glitza Daniela Samper (Nena), Glitza Maria Caicedo Samper (Bachita) and Daniel Samper were tragically taken from us on April 26th, 2025 at the Lapu Lapu Festival, a day celebrating Filipino culture and resistance. As a family of Colombian immigrants, the Samper-Caicedo family loved to spend time together at cultural events around the city that celebrated the diversity of Vancouver.

Nena, Bachita and Daniel were a part of a family that loved each other immensely. They immigrated to Canada in the early 2000s from Colombia in hopes of a peaceful and prosperous future for Nena and Alejo (son of Bachita and Daniel, brother of Nena). Now, Alejo is left without his mother, father and sister; he has lost his entire immediate family. Nena was supposed to marry her fiancé, Jordan, next year, who survived the incident.

Besides Alejo and Jordan, Bachita, Daniel and Nena have left behind many cousins, uncles and aunts, and friends who are deeply heartbroken and impacted.

The loss of all three has left an immense hole in our hearts. As we grieve and try to grapple with the mass impact this tragedy has had on our family and the broader community, we are asking our friends, families and communities for financial support, as we are putting not one, but three very important loved ones to rest.

With your support, we hope to ease the financial stress on our family, especially on Alejo and Jordan, who need the freedom and time to grieve and process this tragedy.

We are seeking funds for the following:
  • To put Bachita, Daniel and Nena to rest at their celebration of life
  • To financially support Alejo and Jordan for the next few months
  • To bring Jordan’s family from Australia to Vancouver, and to bring Bachita and Daniel’s family from Colombia to Vancouver for their celebration of life
  • To cover any additional costs that have come up due to this devastating loss.

During this period of immense grief, we hope to have your help in making this time a bit easier for Alejo and Jordan. We are beyond grateful for your support as we navigate this tragedy, and thank you for anything you are able to give.

Leaving us also is a close friend of Nena and Jordan, Jendhel. If you have the means, please also support their family and loved ones as they deal with this profound loss. Click here to access their fundraiser.

As we continue to find out more about this incident, we still have many questions that we need answered. Our family needs to know: how was this allowed to happen?

Please share this link with your families and communities. Your support is deeply appreciated.

With love and appreciation,
