Hi beautiful souls!
My name is Sarv. I am a theatre creator. My dream is to produce a play that speaks with a lot of communities. Hair Hair Everywhere has been selected to be part of rEvolver Festival to put on 3 shows end of May/Early June. I need your support to make this happen.
HAIR HAIR EVERYWHERE
What’s your relationship with your body hair?
Welcome to Hair Hair everywhere, where we meet Shabnam’s head hair, armpit hair, leg hair and pubic hair! Through shadow puppetry, clown, poetry, sound scores, and original song lyrics in Farsi & English, this experimental comedic play tries to question the beauty standards, the roots of anti-body hair culture, and ways we can embrace our natural bodies.
My intention to write this piece is to talk about Persian taboos; the shame women carry in their bodies, especially how Persian women feel about their bodies. Question and challenge the ideal beauty standards. Be the voice of the collective liberation specifically embracing queer femme bodies, natural brown bodies. This is a play for brown young femme folks to see themselves represented and to feel less alone in their insecurities. This is a play for brown mothers to watch;to be easy on their daughters and more easy on themselves. This is a play for men to watch and realize they are beautiful too;to figure out why they are grossed out of femme body hair but not their own. This is a play for anyone who has experienced body shame. My hope is for all of us to have a better relationship with our body hair collectively. To embrace what our creator has given us. More importantly, to laugh, heal and connect. How can we unlearn and redefine beauty? How can we feel beautiful and worthy even when society tells us we’re not enough. I’m hoping this play will be a bridge to conversations we are trying to run away from.
This is a playreading we just did followed by a talkback
In order to produce this show, I need more funding. Your donation will go towards paying the artists who are working on this project on stage and off stage. Actors, playwright, dramaturg, designers. Your donation will also go towards costumes, props, set, marketing.
I have such a talented group of artists and I want to honour their time and their artistry. No donation is too small. Thank you for making a big difference.
