Brandon's Cancer Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
My name is Brandon, and in a very sudden series of events, I've been both diagnosed and treated for Testicular Cancer, and Crohn's Disease. The upside of this is that modern medicine is a wonder that has left me cancer-free so far as we can tell right now, and Crohn's is on its way to being managed as well as possible. The downside of modern medicine (and this whole situation, really) is that it has now saddled me with a not-insignificant amount of unexpected medical debt. Let's face it, nobody *expects* sudden, significant medical costs.
Insurance has covered a *massive* portion of the overall cost (surgery, follow-ups, scans, etc have totaled nearly $30,000 and there's still more to go down the road), and I've managed to pay off a large portion of the remainder, but they aren't something I can fully tackle on my own before it inevitably goes to a collections agency. My family has lent a hand as far as they are able as well, but we've still come up short of the finish line, and there are still more appointments and subsequent bills to come. I have no savings to speak of, and my income is effectively net-zero after monthly expenses are met. I usually keep maybe $100 aside for fun stuff, but that's been shoved into paying these bills off for the last 3 months now. I do have a credit card, but paying additional interest on medical bills I can't afford in the first place is not a real solution and a recipe for further stress.
At this point, we're about $4,300 shy of completely covering the cost incurred, which *should* be the absolute maximum cost of care, given that my insurance policy has hit my out-of-pocket maximum for 2023 (...yay?). If you're able to lend a hand, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks for taking the time to read through, and for anything you're able to spare. <3
