Thank you for taking the time to read about the need for Turkey. In December, I ran across Turkey on Facebook. He was at the animal shelter in Turlock, CA. For as many times as I usually scroll past these dogs, my heart said yes to him.
Turkey was estimated to be 10 years old. My daughter and I had considered taking fosters, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to see how she did with an unknown animal, for a shorter period of time. Turkey had no back history but had known hip dysplasia. I can afford basic medical and monthly pain medicine management, which is why I decided to take a senior dog.
He was also located at a kill shelter, so comfort care and life was better than abandonment and death, I reasoned.
It took 3 wonderful people to deliver Turkey to us and he has been a great dog. Loving and friendly with everyone. He enjoys walks, is protective of my daughter and he’s just a loyal awesome friend.
Unfortunately, Turkey has an issue with his nose. His left nostril. He came with an incredibly bad mucous issue and we began with treating most obvious first, moving towards more intense and severe medical need.
Now he’s basically in need of a specialist after yesterdays sedation when the doctor that was neutering him looked into his nostril. The scope didn’t yield any definitive results of what has been causing him so much discomfort. It’s possible he got a foxtail lodged deep into his nose, before going to the shelter, that has worked its way deeper into his sinus cavity.
He’s had two rounds of antibiotics, he’s been neutered, and has undergone 1 vaccination since I took him in. He’s a wonderful dog, but he’s in severe pain daily despite the Rovera I give him for his hip pain. If you brush his nose by accident, he yelps out in pain. He gags and he sneezes violently where large quantities of mucus are released. It’s been very trying.
If I had the money, I’d spend it in a heartbeat, but I am unable to cover my own bills at this time. We’ve had a rough year financially, as have many.
The humane society is pulling his records from VCA West to see if they can even accommodate him but he most likely will be going to a specialist who can handle his difficult case.
please, please, please help turkey!
Any money that is not used would be donated to the hospital or doctor that takes his case on (to help other animals) and/or the rescues that already have tried to help him, Jameson Rescue Ranch and Cow Paws.
