Hey, my name is Edwin, and I was recently accepted to a program called SHAD. It's an educational opportunity to help interested students advance their learning over the summer. Going to this program would play such a big part in my life going forward, as it not only offers knowledge I wouldn't obtain otherwise, but also opportunities like exploring university life, getting to know like minded people, and getting a head start towards my ultimate career goal of being an astronaut, which I've been working towards for the past few years through extracurriculars and school programs. SHAD is a very exclusive program, only accepting around 60 people per campus out of roughly 2200 applicants, so I am so lucky to have this opportunity in front of me.
Some things you might want to know about me:
In my goal to be an astronaut, I have strived to achieve excellence in my academic studies. In my grade 9 year I received the President's Gold Medal for the highest academic average in my grade, and I hope to achieve a similar goal this year, with an average of 99.15 as of speaking. I am also enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and have been promoted to the rank of flight corporal. I also run track and field, as well as cross country. Last summer I was invited to both the Manitoba Summer Games and Western Regionals for track and field, competing for Winnipeg Blue and Manitoba respectively. In addition, I am also a drummer, as I enjoy music and expression. I play for a band arranged by The Music Cellar to help advance my musical knowledge.
SHAD offers an opportunity for me to advance almost everything I've listed. The challenging part is, this program requires a large initial investment, which I am hoping you can help with. If you would be willing to help me in my journey to SHAD this summer, I would be eternally grateful, and try my best to set an example for the community.
One note: as a minor, my mother, Kimberly Mah Dalke, will be managing the funds for this fundraiser. This is simply a restriction that GoFundMe has as a whole. Thank you for considering, and if you decide to not donate, thank you for the time you took to check this out and consider anyways.
