Edward Woodrum Memorial Trade Scholarship
Ed was a skilled craftsman, a master carpenter, and a passionate educator. He held a dedication for teaching future members of the trades through his work with apprenticeships and contributed significantly to strengthening the skilled labor pool of the State of Delaware. It's with great pride that the Woodrum family requests donations to the Edward Woodrum Memorial Trade Scholarship in lieu of flowers. Your contribution will continue Ed's legacy through the education of students and ensure that his memory shines through future skilled women and men across Delaware. The Edward Woodrum Memorial Trade Scholarship will be applied at Delaware Technical Community College (DTCC) for students pursuing a skilled-trade. DTCC's Education Foundation will be responsible for the selection and distribution of scholarship funding which may be applied to tuition or the costs of supplies such as tools or books.
A note from DTCC: Many Delaware Tech students require financial aid assistance from the College each year. While a large portion of this assistance comes from state and federal support, the Foundation, through its numerous scholarship accounts, provides substantial financial aid assistance to students college-wide. Scholarships can be used to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, etc. They may also help students with other special needs such as transportation, child care and housing. Many of these students are busy parents trying to better the lives of their family through education.
Full Obituary: Edward James Woodrum (Woody), 62, of Newark, Delaware, tragically passed away in a bicycle accident on June 14, 2021. He was born on April 26, 1959 to Jack Woodrum and Maureen O’Donnell. Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Maureen O’Donnell (Connecticut); father, Jack Lloyd Woodrum (Delaware); stepmother, Marion Woodrum (Delaware); brother, Patrick Woodrum (Missouri); and sister, Susan Bison (Connecticut). Edward is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kimberly Woodrum (Delaware) and their children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his daughter, Rebecca Aiello (Delaware), her husband, Tom Aiello, and their son, Mavrick; his daughter, Jessica Gottschall (Delaware), her husband, Joseph Gottschall, and their children, Hayden and Kensley; and his son, Mark Woodrum (Delaware). Edward is also survived by his brother, Michael Woodrum (Colorado); sister, Ann O’Donnell (North Carolina); stepbrother, Steven Sturgis (California); and stepsister, Kimberly Sturgis (Delaware). Edward was a master carpenter and instructor for the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Training Center and retired in 2018 with 39 years of service to the Delaware Carpenters Union. Edward had a passion for cycling and working on bikes, was a beloved member of the Delaware cycling community, and worked with several local bike shops including REI of Christiana and Brandywine Bikes. Edward had a zest for life and an infectious smile; his ability to light up a room was legendary. He was known for his fierce and all-encompassing love of his wife Kimberly and his commitment to sharing love and joy with his family. Some of his greatest pleasures were spending time with his grandchildren, relaxing on the beach in Florida, and spoiling his wife with the “wow” of life. Edward was dedicated to teaching and creating opportunities for others to work in the skilled trades. In the spirit of his passion for educating others, the Woodrum family is partnering with Delaware Technical and Community College to establish the Edward Woodrum Memorial Trade Scholarship for students pursing a skilled trade.
