My name is,  Charmaine Paliotta.  I’ve been married to Edward L. Paliotta Jr. since June 7, 1986.  We fell in love 41 years ago.  I was attracted to his funny and keen wit, his ability to make me laugh, and his huge kind heart.

Edward was born in Providence, RI on December 2,1956. He has an identical twin brother, John who is one-minute older.  They had wonderful parents who raised them with strong family values. In addition, he was surrounded by many relatives who influenced them in morals and traditions.

At age 9 years old, Edward was first given a guitar and lessons.  He never stopped and in 1979, graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. His passion grew as as a jazz guitarist.  He was a teacher's  assistant at the college, traveled, performed at various venues and with multiple celebrities.

Edward went to Las Vegas to pursue playing in different showrooms. This is when we met  41 years ago.  We married and he adopted my two daughters, Tiffany and Kaylani, and a son, Gilbert. His daughters each gave him a granddaughter, Nalani and Seneca.

As the music industry started to change, he became a Realtor and later he became the Owner/Broker/Property Manager of Sunrise Real Estate,LLC.  He maintained his passion as a jazz guitarist as well and kept his live music live on. He has had heart issues ending up with two stints. However, he kept up his physical health through diversity in law enforcement, paramedics, hiking, camping, cooking, mountain climbing, shooting and training  others in firearms. He became a certified NRA Instructor and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer.

His plans were to retire by December 2022 from the real estate industry.  He wanted to travel the United States to pursue firearms and safety training. He wanted the two of us to travel as we went to various gun range facilities.

He tested positive with covid in January 2022. We thought he had it under control with our physician. But he was admitted into the hospital on January 28th and was diagnosed with covid pneumonia. His journey was difficult as Edward fought for every breath. It got more difficult knowing that he was unable to breathe and was told his lungs were damaged. He was transferred to another hospital on February 5th where Edward fought for his life until he was intubated on March 1, 2022.  On March 17, 2022 he was given a tracheostomy,  which he had a difficult time thereafter getting off the ventilator. The incorrect monitoring of the ventilator and the feeding tube surgery began the downhill battle.  During the surgery for his feeding tube they collapsed his right lung (pneumothorax) causing them to also need to insert a chest tube to inflate his lungs.  This became a complication when he was put on mostly steroids. Sedation [steroids] was what the hospital would continue to offer as part of daily care.

Edward’s health became more than a struggle to breathe every time he awakened from the sedation. His last days of possible hope was from April 8-April 29, 2022 while at the long term care facility called, Post Acute Medical [PAM] Hospital. The doctors, the team of nurses and respiratory techs cared for him daily to help him turn around from being critically ill. At one point, we had so much hope for him to get off the ventilator once the hole sealed in his lungs and the fluids were removed from his body. However, the complications of the covid became overpowering and he developed pneumonia, not covid, in his left lung and the hole in the right lung struggled to heal and eventually caused kidney failure. This was a shocking outcome because he was recovering and the end result came out of nowhere.

EdwardL.Paliotta Jr., born in Providence, RI, Dec. 2nd 1956 - passed April 29th, 2022.

This was difficult to write. So, I asked a close friend of the family who was like a son to Edward  and I if he would write a little glimpse into who Edward was.

Written by Willie Warren Jr.:

Edward meant so much and was so many things to so many people, that I couldn’t possibly fit it all in here. And to go into the intimate details of how he passed would be a disservice to the privacy of his family. So instead,  I would like to do my best to tell you how he lived.

In his home, the castle that Ed and Charmaine built, he was a cook, a king, and a jester all rolled into one. I remember the first time I was invited to join Ed and the Palliottas for a holiday dinner (it became a tradition). And everytime I watched Ed I was jealous, but not in the egotistical sordid kind of way. Watching him team up with his wife Charmaine in the kitchen, then seeing him hug his granddaughter after she got scolded by her mother, and then welcome a complete stranger into his home to break bread as if he’d known me for years (he even made time to play with my dog)...seeing this, as a man, made you want to be better so that you could have this kind of love and joy around yourself someday.

No matter who you were, or what your background was, there was always room for plenty at Ed’s table and in his castle. He made you feel a part of the rich proud Italian family that he came from himself, and the same is true of his twin brother, John today. And when Ed held court, sitting at the head of the table he commanded everyone’s attention, though he was never abrasive, forceful, or heavy-handed. Ed did it with unconditional love, unbridled joy, and contagious laughter that made everyone around him feel like family.

And when that first of many holiday dinners was over and the table was cleared, I remember being humbled when Ed, still sitting at the head of the now empty table, invited me to move down and sit next to him and have another bottle of wine. We drank and laughed until it hurt. Those times, with Ed’s passing, are over now, but they were unforgettable.

Ed was a lot of things to a lot of people. A loving husband and teammate to his wife Charmaine.  A proud father and grandfather to his daughters and his granddaughters. A brother and life-long partner in crime to his twin brother John, and uncle to all his nieces and nephews. And it didn’t matter if you were related by blood or not. When you were with Ed, you belonged. You were a Palliotta. Beyond family,  Ed was also a professional performing artist with a great love of music that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was a collegiate scholar and a traveler, and he even became a real-estate broker and small business owner.

Of all the things I’ve learned Edward Palliotta to be over the years to everyone around him, in the end I, and all of those closest to him got to see the warrior that he was. Ed’s battle with covid was not a short one. For three months he fought for every breath he took. He fought so hard and so long that none of us ever believed he wasn’t going to win. About a month before Ed left us, after being intubated to help his breathing he told his wife that he was ready to go. Charmaine expressed to him that he couldn’t yet. So he fought on for another month. He hung on long enough to see and say goodbye to everyone closest to him, even his two dogs.

“...a warrior’s ultimate act is to lay down his sword.” -HERO-

On April 29th 2022, Edward L. Paliotta Jr. lay down his sword and his fight finally ended.

With everything he touched he had a way of sharing the joy and relevance he found in it with everyone around him. A true renaissance man, Edward led a life of great experience and achievement, and as such he left behind a home and tremendous shoes that could never be filled. His wife and their family are doing their best to cover all of the medical expenses and funeral preparations, as well as pulling together to find a way to cover the daily/monthly living expenses like utilities and basic maintenance  of the home that Ed and Charmaine built. It is for this purpose that we are sharing some of Ed’s life and his passing here, and humbly requesting donations, however large or small they may be. Everything helps.

Thank you.
