September 10, 1952 - January 29, 2021
Edward Cornelius DeWilde II, 68, of Lakewood, Wisconsin, was peacefully called to join the Lord in heaven with his loving wife of 46 years at his side in his residence early the morning of January 29, 2021.
Edward was born September 10, 1952, in Pensacola, Florida, son of the late Edward Cornelius and Violet (King) DeWilde.
Edward graduated from Freedom High School in 1969. Shortly afterward, he earned his Welding Certificate at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, Wisconsin. He worked as a welder for the Manitowoc Engineering Company in Manitowoc, Bucyrus-Erie in Pocatello, Idaho, Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, and was a welding supervisor for Valley Plating and Fabricating in Green Bay. Edward later retired at the age of 58 as a welding instructor from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
Survivors include his loving wife: Doreen (Strohm) DeWilde, Two Rivers; two daughters and sons-in-law: Rachel and Jason Thron of Windsor, Colorado; and Naomi and Seth Lightfoot of Pulaski; and grandchildren Tegan and Ava Thron of Windsor, Colorado; Nadia and Mason Trinh and Clark Lightfoot of Pulaski; two sisters: Betty and Gordon Ray of Madison, and Sharon Lowney and Sam of Greenville; and one brother: Joseph DeWilde of Many Farms, Arizona; one sister-in-law: Christine and Larry Reagan of Garner, North Carolina; and one brother-in-law: Craig and Diana Strohm of Grass Valley, California; life long friends: Dan and Diane Isings of Sturgeon Bay; and godson: Willy Isings of Sturgeon Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Cornelius and Violet DeWilde of DePere and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lester and Margaret Strohm of Two Rivers. Edward is also both survived by and preceded in death by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Edward was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman, and enjoyed many adventures on the water boating and on the road traveling with his wife, children, and friends. Edward found joy in all aspects of life. He was especially fond of his home in Lakewood, where he spent his retirement and was able to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of nature. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and never took for granted how special the blessings of family and friends were in his life. Edward will leave those who knew and loved him with many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed in his place among the wildflowers.
Close family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life later this year.
Naomi and I would like to help offset the costs of medical bills and funeral expenses. As our father's sole caregiver, our mother has not been able to work the last few months. Special thanks to anyone who would like to donate to offset those costs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
