Edward Burkey’s Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Nicole Liveoak, granddaughter of Edward Burkey, and I’m looking to raise some funds to help take care of my grandfather while he undergoes an intense cancer treatment.
My grandfather was diagnosed with Lymphoma in September of 2022 and has already undergone 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 30 rounds of radiation. His fight has been tough, but it’s far from over. Starting 8/22 he will start another treatment called CAR T-cell Therapy. This therapy modifies your T-cells (a type of white blood cell) so they’re better at recognizing and destroying cancer cells. This treatment will take around a month to a month and a half. I am taking a leave of absence from work to be my grandfather’s caretaker while he undergoes treatment. During this time we will be staying in Atlanta so we are close to the hospital (he will have to be there every day for a minimum of 30 days). As life does, things haven’t gone quite as planned. My grandpa had to have a feeding tube placed due to some nutritional issues. Unfortunately due to insurance qualifications my grandpa does not qualify for insurance covered tube feedings since my grandpa is physically able to swallow (although it is not without difficulty). Insurance does not consider malnutrition as a valid reason for covering cost of tube feedings. This means that all of the formula costs will be out of pocket. A month supply of formula for tube feedings are roughly around $600. This is just one of the many expenses we are dealing with during this difficult time. With that being said, any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and support of my grandfather and my family during this extremely difficult time.
