Dorota (Dorothy) will undergo surgery on September 22nd to remove part of a tumor in her brain. Dorota was diagnosed with glioma in 2010 after she suffered a mini stroke. At the time she was told it was too dangerous to operate, but the tumor has grown to the point where she has no choice but a risky surgery.
Dorota and Sean are high school sweethearts who will celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary later this month. At 38 years old with 2 children, Shane age 10 and Alia age 7, Dorota is determined to fight and is showing remarkable bravery and strength.
In addition to the brain tumor, Dorota has suffered other setbacks. A subsequent body scan after the tumor was discovered revealed a large tumor in her abdomen, which was removed, and lesions on her liver. Last year she underwent surgery to remove a level 4 melanoma and lymph nodes under her arm. Over the past four years she has undergone MRIs and seen specialists for tests every few months.
All of these procedures have resulted in insurmountable medical bills. Their insurance covers only a portion of this new surgery and they will be left with additional debt. Dorota has been unable to work since her diagnoses and Sean, who spends 6 months a year working in Alaska will be out of work as he helps her on her long road to recovery. This already difficult time has been made worse by the stress of the financial burden they are facing.
