Edgars Lurans Battling Motor Neurone Disease

Donation protected
My name is Luke Wilson, and on the 11th of October I’m taking on the biggest challenge of my life — running 100 miles straight from Sheffield to Bridlington — to raise funds for my friend’s dad, Edgars Lurans, who is bravely battling Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

Although I haven’t been able to get to know Edgars as well as I’d have liked; mainly because of the language barrier, with him and the rest of the Lurans family being from Latvia, I’ve still learnt a lot about the kind of man he is. The family moved to the UK 18 years ago and made their home in the seaside town of Bridlington. I’ve been best mates with his son, Eduards, for 12 years, and through that friendship I’ve seen first-hand how devoted Edgars is as a father. Whenever Eddie had a problem, his dad was always there, whether it was fixing his car, giving him a lift, or sharing his engineering knowledge. Every time I met him, Edgars was warm, welcoming, and full of good humor. As an R&D engineer, he was highly respected by his colleagues, always taking pride in his work, striving for improvement, and proving himself to be an asset to his company. He was also rarely seen without his trademark moustache, which I like to think shows amazing taste. From what I’ve seen, and from what so many others say, Edgars is a kind, caring man, always ready to help; a great friend, father, and husband.

Edgars and his family: Svetlana, Aleksandrs, Kristine, and Eduards, have been fighting MND for over two years now. In that time, they’ve faced challenges that most of us couldn't imagine, from the physical effects of the disease, to the emotional and financial strain it brings. Despite everything, they’ve shown incredible strength and kept supporting each other every step of the way. This fundraiser is a way to stand alongside them in that fight and help ease some of the heavy burden they carry.

Running 100 miles will be one of the toughest challenges mentally and physically I will probably ever go through, but it’s nothing compared to what Edgars and his family go through every day living with this disease. Knowing that is what will drive me forward until the very end.

Every penny raised will go directly to the Lurans family, helping them cover medical costs, specialist equipment, and the care Edgars needs to have the best quality of life possible. Whatever the amount, your donation will make a real and lasting difference.

Thank you and see you at the finishing line.
