NOURISH: Feeding School Children in Lagos, Nigeria

The aim of this Spring Fundraiser is to gather more community to feed children in schools through EDUFOOD. EDUFOOD is a Lagos Food Bank Initiative program providing children with meals in school so that they have the energy they need to focus and excel in their studies. This initiative also contributes to better attendance rates, positive family dynamics, and healthy physical development. At times, this may be the only meal a child has for the day.

The fundraiser will end on May 1st at 11:59pm EST.

BACKGROUND: My partnership with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative x EDUFOOD started in 2020, and every year we have worked together to ensure more and more schools are reached. I have always been passionate about providing younger generations with the resources they need to succeed, representation to inspire their goals, and support for the improvement of their health because they are our future. As a Nigerian living in the Diaspora, finding ways to give back to our local communities is extremely important. This fundraiser helps to support young children whose daily food consumption costs less than 1 US dollar. This is an opportunity for everyone, no matter where you are located in the world, to contribute to a community effort that is truly changing the lives of these children and helping to diminish widespread starvation.

DATA: Over 26.5 million people across Nigeria face food insecurity and the Lagos Food Bank Initiative is dedicated and focused on combatting this issue. The cost associated with feeding 800 children in a week equals to 1,440,000 Naira (around $930 USD).

GOAL: With the funds donated via GoFundMe, I will be personally organizing the procurement of food and drinks from the market and delivery of goods to the Lagos Food Bank warehouse so they can be distributed to many schools all over Lagos, Nigeria. I am hoping with all of our efforts we can feed over 2,000 children and aid in mitigating food insecurity.
