For the past two years, I have been able to bring my underprivileged middle school students to Disney World. (A few pictures from pervious trips are below.) For many this was their first and only time they have left the city of Hartford. Through Disney they were able to participate in experiences outside of the classroom, where their learning became real and authentic.
This year we are in danger of not providing this life altering opportunity to another group of students. We need your help to provide the necessary experiences and background knowledge to fully succeed in school and become effective citizens in our country.
With your help, they will experience their first aquarium, zoo and journey on an airplane. They will watch their learning come alive through physics and chemistry classes. Most importantly, it will give them the opportunity to explore a world outside of their comfort zone.
Through this exciting trip the following will be achieved.
Students will:
1. Develop a better understanding of the world outside of Hartford, and feel motivated to become active citizens.
2. Develop authentic real life connections to the curriculum and be able to watch their learning come alive.
3. Build background knowledge of various subjects they need to understand in order to succeed in high school and beyond.
4. Feel a part of and make a strong connection to the American society and culture.
We need your help to achieve this! All donations will help pay for field trip costs such as food, transportation, hotel stay, and admission fees.
