Educational trip to help fight poverty in Peru

My name is Tristram and I am a Year 10 student at Queen Elizabeth High School I am raising funds in order to go to Peru for a month with Camps International in conjunction with my school, QEHS.

This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would ordinarily not be able to attend as I am from a low income single parent family and my father is a full time carer for my two disabled sisters, and we wouldn't be able to fund a trip like this due to our families financial constraints, fortunately one of the remits of being allowed to go on this journey is that I have to raise the cost of the trip through fundraising.

The total cost of the trip amounts to £5000, and I am going to raise this money through various ventures which include gardening services, car washing, etc. I am also planning to swim 2500 metres in a sponsored swim, I am also looking to create a range of pet treats to help me raise the required amount.( any other ideas would be appreciated)

This trip will give me a wonderful opportunity to help improve the ability of the Peruvian people we are helping to grow their own food, through the construction of infrastructure such as greenhouses, schools and kitchen, and to help them to negate the effect of food poverty and to help give them more education on the effects of chronic malnutrition and other related dietary diseases.

This trip will also allow me to help them build clean water supplies, kitchens, dining halls, sanitation and affordable housing for their most vulnerable community members.

I will be making an effort towards the conservation of endangered wildlife and the restoration of the natural environment that has been destroyed by industrial deforestation which is leading to an increase in global warming and poverty in this region.

I will have an opportunity in aiding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as the end of poverty for everybody and equitable and quality education for all.

On a more personal note, I would also like to learn more about the many varied and diverse cultures of Peru through living and working with them, to gain more information about how the Peruvian people manage to survive while living well below the UNDP poverty line.

I would like to find out how they spend their free time, how their school system compares to ours, and the types of homes and communities they live in, plus the amazing experience of meeting new people from a completely different culture.

The challenge of the fundraising required to allow me to go on the trip and the activities during the trip will give me the opportunity to learn several life skills such as improving my ability to work with others, my leadership skills,to give me an improvement to my confidence and learn more about the time and money management required to raise the required £5000 needed for the trip.

I would also like to explore as much of Peru as possible and am particularly interested in Machu Picchu and the “Lost City of the Incas”.

I would be very grateful for any help towards the trip or help with sponsorships and putting me in contact with other helpful organisations who can help me achieve my goal, as the process of raising the necessary funds is quite daunting and any help you are able to give me will be highly appreciated.
