I'm writing to ask for help. It has always been my dream to earn an Engineering degree from an American university. I've worked hard, and I'm close to the goal, but right now my dream is in jeopardy because of economic problems in Bangladesh. Unless I find a solution quickly, I will have to return to Bangladesh because I don't have the nearly $10,000 needed for fall tuition.
I came to the U.S. as a high school senior in 2009. After attending Black Hawk College in Moline, IL, I transferred to the Univ. of Wisconsin - Platteville where I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems. I have three semesters to go.
My family has been able to help until now, but political instability has led to a nationwide economic downturn that has wiped out most of my father's business. He has already sold most of our property to help pay for my education, and my mother's salary barely supports our family as it is.
I earn my room and board by working as a resident assistant in a residence hall on campus, and I pick up as much additional work as I can to earn money. I've been awarded a few small scholarships, but as an international student, I'm not eligible for student loans. I can't get a bank loan for education costs without a co-signer. After I cover my living expenses, I believe I can cover about $1,000 of tuition each semester from my earnings.
It's a lot to ask anyone to fund the whole tuition amount, but if a lot of people help as they can, I can enroll for fall semester and be much closer to my goal. Will you help me? Every contribution will make a tremendous difference. You may never comprehend how much it means to me.
There are two ways to do this.
