Education funding for two children and a school in Nepal

Donation protected
Over the last year I have been helping two children Ushikya and Ranjit from a rural Nepali village by supporting the cost of their education. In these remote areas, access to quality education is not free even for the poorest in the community. On top of the school fees, which is around US$400 a year, the families must also find money for uniforms and books. For some families this is just not possible and so the children miss out on the opportunities afforded through education. Not only does it provide opportunities to escape from poverty, but it also provides social interaction each day which is essential for childhood development.

Education is very important to me. When I finished secondary school, I had to work to pay for my own education, but I had the opportunity to work whereas these children and their families have very few and limited options available to them. Ushikya’s mum, Kamana, is a single parent to her and her brother and their only source of income is a milking buffalo that provides for their living costs. Kamana therefore cannot afford to send both her children to school, therefore Ushikya is left out so that her brother can go to school.

I am also supporting a local primary school next to the school that Ranjit attends. The staff at this school says that they have almost nothing for the children, some don’t even have any shoes to wear. So, with the help of some other donors, last December we were able to provide them with mats on the cold classroom floor where they sit, jumpers and stationery.

Through a trusted local contact who has been the logistics for the children and the school over the last year, they were able to have access to education and resources that was not available to them before. This also means that 100% of what you donate will be used towards these children’s learning journey, who are so remote that most charities are not able to reach them. However, this is not a one-time commitment for me, I hope to be able to support them for as long as possible and see them through school so that they can have the opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Any amount you can donate, even if it’s the price of a pint at the pub or a cup of tea, will help to make a difference in the lives of these children.
