Education Fund in Memory of Jessica Austin

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, Jessica Austin, at the age of 38, passed away and, in doing so, departed on one final heavenly adventure. She was many amazing things, and her personality can only be described as “boundless” in nature, begging the question, “How did so much personality find its way into one body!?” She had a dangerously shrewd sense of humor; she had a frustratingly sharp intellect; and yet she had room in her heart for all of those who had room in their hearts for others.

She was fearless; she was a force of nature; she was everything to her family; she greedily devoured and enjoyed life; and her spirit lives on with us.

She once said to me, “Curtis, always leave them wanting more!”  And, true to form, she has.

Although she left us too soon, she lived many lives in her 37 years. No matter where she was in the world her family was always her North Star, and her commitment to her niece and nephew was unparalleled. Aside from being a fearless world traveler, talented chef and consumer of delicious foods, a creative writer, reporter, and intellectual social justice swashbuckler, she was also a loving and devoted aunt. Jessica considered being an Auntie not simply as her role but also as her calling.

In lieu of flowers and as a potential alternative to attending Jessica’s Home-going Celebration, we would like for Jessica’s community to celebrate her life and commitment to being an Auntie by contributing to what she considered the most worthy of her priorities, the education of her niece and nephew.
