Give Lisa an education and he tools to life
Donation protected
This initiative collects funds to provide little Lisa with an education in South Africa.
Who is Lisa?
Lisa (Tafadzwa) was born in April 2022 and lives in Imizamo Yethu (a township settlement in Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa). Nomsa, Lisa's mother, is in desperate need of financial support to provide her with the key to life - an education.

We have known Nomsa (Lisa's mother) for nearly 15 years. She is an intelligent, hard-working and loving mother. We believe that no one deserves this opportunity more than her daughter. South Africa is not an easy place to grow up in. There are thousands of Lisas. We cannot help all of them, sadly. But we can help this Lisa. Together with you, we would like to support her to the fullest extent. If you would like to know more about Nomsa and Lisa, please contact us. We are fully aware that Lisa still has a couple of years before her first day of school, but we would like to get a head start. Securing funds early ensures a time buffer.
What will the funds be used for?
100% of the funds will go towards Lisa's education at one of the considered schools below. Incurred savings (from yearly savings, financial aid, etc.) will go towards Lisa's following year of education.
Which schools are you considering?
The following schools are being considered:
• Pre-Primary school: Valley Pre-Primary School (more information here)
• Primary school: Kronendal Primary School in Hout Bay (more information here) and Camps Bay Primary School in Camps Bay (more information here)
• High school: Camps Bay High School in Camps Bay (more information here)
The schools are an ideal fit due to their high quality of education, close proximity, diversity and enriching learning environments. From personal experience, we can vouch for the schools' fantastic facilities and teachers. Academics, sports, as well as arts and culture, guide the children to strive for the highest. This will probably be the most important foundation for Lisa. Entry applications will be continuously completed starting in 2025.
What did we base our calculations on?
Receiving a good education in South Africa is an expensive luxury. To calculate a total yearly cost, we considered 200 school days with a traveling distance from Hout Bay (her home) to Camps Bay (location of the school) of 10-20km:
• Traveling distance (MyCity bus prices): 230 EUR / R 3'600 per year
• Educational material & stationary (estimation, no reference available): 160 EUR / R 2'500 per year
• Uniform costs (CBPS uniform shop): 320 EUR / R 5'000 per year
• School fees (CBPS school fees): 2'500 EUR / R 40'000 per year
• Total yearly cost: 3'210 EUR / R 51'100 (exchange rate from April 2022)
• Total overall cost (@ 14 years of education, see Milestones below): 44'940 EUR / R 715'400 (exchange rate from April 2022)
You can contact us for the full spreadsheet or check the accuracy of the costs above yourself. School fees for Valley Pre-Primary and Kronendal Primary are ca. 2'200 EUR / R 36'500 (excluding costs for uniform and educational material). In this case traveling distance is negligible due to the school's close proximity to Lisa's home. Any funds left over will be used in the following year of her education.
Timeline and milestones
The ultimate goal is to get Lisa through both primary and high school. One step at the time though. In total, we have set out 13 milestones (one per grade) where one milestone equals the total yearly cost. Upon reaching a milestone, the donation goal will be updated by adding the total yearly cost to the initial donation goal. This means that you, as a donor, will have full transparency of how much has been collected over the years to come (all via this platform). When a milestone is reached, it will be communicated on this platform.
In South Africa, prior to Grade 1, children attend Grade R and RR. Grade R stands for the Reception Year, and it is part of the Department of Basic Education's national curriculum. They typically attend Grade RR aged 4 and R aged 5. As such, we have set up the following timeline:
Pre-Primary school:
• Attend Grade RR in 2026 (collect funds in 2022 = Milestone 01)
• Attend Grade R in 2027 (collect funds in 2023 = Milestone 02)
Primary school:
• Attend Grade 1 in 2028 (collect funds in 2024 = Milestone 03)
• ...
• Attend Grade 7 in 2034 (collect funds in 2030 = Milestone 09)
High school:
• Attend Grade 8 in 2035 (collect funds in 2031 = Milestone 10)
• ...
• Attend Grade 12 in 2039 (collect funds in 2035 = Milestone 14)
