Education Center for Children & Women in Senegal

Dear Helpers,

My name is Leslie, I'm raising funds to help my dear friend Khalil Tall build and run his own health, nutrition and education center in Senegal.

I met Khalil during my first trip in Senegal via the Couchsurfing platform.

His family opened their door and their heart to me as they did to with many other travelers before and after me!

On my second trip to Senegal, he introduced me to his promising and ambitious project.

The center is already welcoming children, offering them math, French and English classes, as well as electricity workshops, as you can see from the photos below.

Khalil has build everything by himself with his own resources. However, these are no longer enough to keep the center going!

Do you want to join in making a difference by helping people in need in the society ?

I’m Khalil Tall, an English language teacher, rapper, change maker and social worker.

I’ve been very active in my community since my childhood, doing community work, helping people, etc.

I am raising funds for my own health, food and education center in Senegal. Every donation will be of help.

Mercy House Center is dedicated to giving opportunities to children and adults from low-income families ranging from free education in basic Mathematics, Languages and Sex education to acquisition of skills in simple electrical installations like repair of lamps and other household wares, Sewing and Hair dressing.

This training will help them to know how to read and write and also help them to have basic qualifications and be able to work and live decently.

Also, sex education will create awareness and help them to avoid sexual assaults which lead to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases that seems to be ravaging our society.

Sex education will also prepare young girls about their periods and how to deal with it when it shows up.

How will the money be used?

1. Payment of stipends

The money will be used to pay the Mathematics, French, Electricity, Sewing and Sex Education Teachers every month. And to pay the cleaner who will clean the environment of training twice a week.

2. Buying of essentials

We will buy food stuffs, medical equipment and medications.

3. Building of Classrooms

We want to build two new classrooms for women who don’t go to school but are interested in learning a skill like sewing and making of dresses. There will also be a classroom for hair dressing and salon equipment and materials to make practical learning easy for the women. In this way, the women will have qualifications and be respected in the society.

4. Summer Programs

Summer programs will be organized for kids. Such as, pedagogical outings, camps and some outdoor sport competitions.
