Walking in Memory, Walking for Change
This May, I’ve taken on a personal challenge: to double my walking miles, despite recovering from an injury. From my monthly average of 50km, I will embark on walking 100km with heart full of joy and smile on my face every single km!
But this isn't just about fitness — it's about honouring a boy named Nikola and supporting the incredible legacy built in his memory.
Who Was Nikola?
Nikola was not yet 13 years old when his life was tragically cut short. Out of this unimaginable loss, his family founded the Nikola Baroš Foundation — a nonprofit dedicated to bringing joy, equality, and inclusion to children, regardless of their background or ability.
Their mission is rooted in the belief that small acts of love can change the world — something Nikola himself deeply believed in.
What does the foundation do?
The foundation focuses on:
- Supporting inclusive education for children with special needs
- Breaking down barriers for marginalized and underserved children
- Promoting a sense of belonging and safety for every child
Their first major project is already underway — the construction of an outdoor classroom at a primary school in Prijedor, Bosnia. This will be the first of its kind in the region: a place where learning meets nature, where children can grow in confidence and curiosity in a supportive, inspiring space.
Why I am walking
I’m walking — step by step, mile by mile — to raise funds for this meaningful mission for children in my hometown in Bosnia. I want to help turn Nikola’s story into hope for others. Every donation brings us closer to a world where all children feel seen, safe, and supported.
