Wild nature shelter project

Donation protected
The Wild Nature Project  offers nature-connection experiences to kids and people of all ages. Participants learn about wild edible & medicinal plants, natural shelter building, fire skills, knife safety, and building strong connections to our natural world, each other, and themselves. Hundreds of kids, families, and individuals in the Bloomington area have benefited from our programs for over a decade.

Richard Louv said in his book "Last Child in the Woods" that "the future will belong to the nature-smart". What this means is that to navigate the many complicated local and global issues we will need to understand natural ecology. We at Wild Nature Project have seen first-hand that immersion in nature-connection programs throughout childhood and adolescence brings out confidence, compassion, and heart-centered leadership qualities in individuals.
Now is the time to grow our programming and reach more people. Too many kids are spending too much time on devices and too little time appreciating the amazing diversity, beauty, and magic of nature. We are seeking donations to build a new shelter house on our property. This will be used for community gatherings, classes, and events and will allow us to have a greater positive impact on the current and future generations.

Project Cost:
An organization like ours has a lot of small expenses that add up (taxes, insurance, staffing, craft materials, etc.) and in the end we don't have a lot of savings. The total cost of this project is estimated at $11,000 for a 32'x48' shelter house. We are putting up $4,000 (plus volunteering our time to help with the building) and we need help from the community to complete this exciting and important project.
How will the building be used?
-It will house our library of nature field guides for research
-Also inside you will find nature posters, maps of our area, and cool items that we find in the forests (bones, feathers, fossils, rocks, etc.)
-Project and craft materials can be easily stored and accessed
-The building will sit on the edge of grassy lawn and woodland forest
-Seasonal community celebrations will be hosted here
-It will be an important rain shelter that can house large groups of kids on rainy or stormy days (so we won't have to cancel class)
-Overall, it will be a nature classroom for all kinds of educational opportunities for people of all ages
-In the long-term we would like to add exterior walls, insulation, and a wood stove (We'll see how this campaign goes first. If we surpass our goal then we will build the add-ons)
