Educating students on the power of consent

Trigger warning: mentions of sexual assault and suicide

Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm a staunch advocate for those who've experienced and survived sexual assault. Education is power and education is prevention. Every human deserves factual, accurate knowledge surrounding their autonomous rights.

Every 98 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. 70 women die by suicide every day in the aftermath of this injustice. 1 in 3 women has experienced sexual assault and violence. This is a crisis.

The Schools Consent Project (SCP) delivers hour-long lawyer-led workshops for 11 to 18-year-olds on consent, including the legal definition of consent, how to identify consent, the ages of consent, bystander intervention, the offenses of rape, sexual assault, and ‘sexting’, responding to disclosures and ways to seek help. Over 30,000 students have been educated so far!

This program hits very close to home, personally and locally. 100% of the funds raised will go to the SCP, providing monetary support for their expanding New York division. While extremely essential, the only sex and relationship initiative (with legislative footing) in NYC is HIV/AIDS awareness.

If these educational resources existed when I was growing up, it would've made a world of difference.

We all deserve to make our own choices––to protect ourselves, our loved ones, our fellow neighbors, and our most vulnerable younger generation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you'll consider donating. Any amount will make a guaranteed, lasting impact.
