Eduardo's Fight Against Colorectal Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I'm Carlos and I started this fundraiser on behalf of my cousin, Jazmin, and her fiancé, Eduardo Tafoya, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer. Your donation will help relieve financial burdens that they may have while they endure this fight!
Eduardo Tafoya is the 29-year-old fiancé to Jazmin and father of their 4 children (Alan 10, Alina 8, Alec 4, and Amelia 2).
On October 30, 2022, Eduardo was having stomach pain, loss of appetite and heavy bleeding from his rectum. His fiancé took him into the ER to get checked out because his pain was unbearable. They did a CT scan on him that showed his intestines were swollen thinking it was an infection and that he was also severely anemic. The doctor sent a referral to get a colonoscopy so they could see what was going on internally. After a long wait for the insurance to approve (due to his age), on January 19, 2023, he finally had his colonoscopy. Unfortunately, it was devastating news we didn’t expect to hear. The doctor said Colorectal Cancer and right away sent a referral to get him seen by an Oncologist in Richland, WA. The Oncologist's office was quick to respond. Their office did more labs, another CT scan and another MRI. They confirmed what stage he was at. This was hard news to take in for Eduardo and is in disbelief. Due to the stage it was at, they needed to do a colostomy bag immediately to relieve some pain from his waist down to his legs. The surgery was a success and he spent the next couple of days at the hospital. He needed to get some rest. In the meantime, the nurses taught him and his fiancé Jazmin how to care for his bag and to prepare them for his new normal for now. Jazmin has been a great support system and is being hands-on, helping care for him. Since his colostomy bag was healing well, he was able to start eating lightly and was feeling a bit better. Once he was released from the hospital he was able to meet with his doctor and set a treatment plan for him. He will be doing 20 rounds altogether, 12 of just chemo and 8 of chemo and radiation. The doctors say that he has an advantage because he is a healthy young man. He needed 3 weeks for his colostomy bag to heal before he could start his chemo treatment.
On February 28th he had a procedure to put in his medical port where his chemo would be given from. Finally, on March 13th he started his first round of chemo. He is now on round 2 and so far he has been doing good. The only symptoms he is feeling are fatigue, nausea, pain, and weight loss but he is a fighter!
He is a family man, loving, and joyful father and fiancé. He is always willing to help others without hesitation. I started this gofundme to try and help ease any financial burden that they are going through. His fiancé is his caregiver and is also taking care of their 4 young children. At the moment Eduardo is unable to work due to having multiple surgeries and procedures and has started his chemo treatments. He was the sole provider for his family and is not able to provide as he used to. He is not able to return to his current position at PSSI Sanitation located in Tyson at the moment due to the environment, all the chemicals, and different types of temperatures he works in. He is expected to be out for the rest of the year.
This has all been very hard, sad and very shocking news for our whole family. Now he needs to focus on his treatment, healing his body and kicking this cancer to the curve! The support of his family and friends and his community means the world to him and his family. All funds raised will go directly to Eduardo to be used for traveling to his chemo treatments at the Cancer Center in Kennewick or any other financial needs that come up as time goes on. Anything you are able to donate will be greatly appreciated! Please keep Eduardo and his family in your prayers as they face a challenging year. We can’t thank you enough for the love and support he has, or will receive. Thank you to his care team as well, they are truly amazing! God bless you!
