Eduardo Tamez- no insurance, battling cancer

Hi there, we are asking for help in supporting our brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many, Eduardo Tamez. (Those who know him know him as Eddy or Lalo.) Eddy began experiencing troubling symptoms in April, 2022. At that time he was working as a teacher and when the administration noted that he was sick they did not renew his contract for the following school year, which effectively ended his insurance.

Since that time Eddy has been paying for doctors and procedures out of his own savings. He visited eight doctors before he met a doctor who really listened and ordered the correct tests that showed he had colon cancer. By the time the cancer was diagnosed it had become quite advanced.

As this is being written, Eddy is hospitalized and recovering from a surgery. Next he will need chemotherapy. Eddy was never married and lives with his mother in Monterrey, Mexico. His mom is a widow and is legally blind, so unable to work. The city where the Eddy and his mom live is experiencing a drought, which is adding extra stress, pressure, and financial cost on top of the mounting medical bills. We (his sister-in-law and brother) are setting up this fundraiser for Eddy because while we will help as much as we can, we have a large family and are not able to fund his entire medical treatment.

Eddy has spent his adult life enriching the lives of others, traveling to parts of the world such as Canada, Serbia, Costa Rica, college campuses in the USA through Campus Crusade for Christ to help people, often boldly entering areas where others were afraid to go. In his native Mexico he has been a middle school teacher up until the time he got sick, and has spent time supporting local jail ministries, bringing supplies and support to local incarcerated men.

It would be so lovely to see a community rise up and help him in the same way that he has helped and supported so many others. Any money donated will go directly to Eddy's medical bills. We thank you so much in advance. It's difficult to describe the sadness of watching him go through the pain of the cancer and medical treatments and wishing there was more we could do. If we can at least reduce the financial burden, we know he will be less stressed and treatment will be more effective. Mil gracias!
