In February of this year, Ed was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He battled cancer from Valentine's Day to Labor Day. This fundraiser continues in Ed's honor to support his family in this new life without their daddy.
After growing up first as a military brat and then back in his hometown of Spokane, WA, Ed first came to Alaska in 1987 to work at Denali Park. As he worked there, he went to college in the winter and earned his degree in Law Enforcement. In 1997, he married Robanne and they moved to Alaska. He was hired by the North Slope Borough Police Department in 1998 and spent seven years serving the people of the Arctic. In 2005, he joined the Homer Police Department and was a senior patrol officer, firearms instructor, former DARE officer, and was one of the first trainers in the state for Active Shooter situations.
His favorite people were his wife of 20+ years and his kids ages 14, 9, and 7. He was a member and deacon at his local Baptist Church. He was active in the community and always helping out others, donating his time whenever needed.
Thank you all for the support through Ed's seven-month journey with cancer. Please follow #stadingstrong at https://www.facebook.com/stadingstrongg/ to share memories about Ed and well-wishes to his family.
