Hi all, it’s been a while since we have updated anyone on Dad! So since the Biopsy and admission in Roswell back at the end of February to mid March, there’s been a few things that have transpired! When he was released he was to have blood cultures once a week for three weeks, all of which came back negative with no growth, so that was great news! He then had a follow up with Infectious Disease at Roswell to get cleared to discuss the next steps in his Cancer treatment! Well at that appointment they did another set of blood cultures, which came back positive and showed growth! Roswell suggested he go to Urgent Care so they could get him admitted somewhere and start IV antibiotic again! Bath VA doesn’t do impatient stays anymore so they tried to find an available bed close to their home for convenience of Mom since she doesn’t do well with city driving! They were unsuccessful, so off to the Buffalo VA, where he spent about a week there! Once at the VA they placed a PICC line again and started the antibiotics! They ran a few tests on him while in there to try and find the source of his infection, they determined it was around his Pacemaker! So they said it’s got to come out. He was released from the VA and is on IV antibiotics at home! Emily was taught in person and Mom was on facetime learning! He go home and it was a long few days working out the kinks and nerves of administering IV meds in to Dad! But Evie (Mom) is a rockstar for doing this! Dad is now having his Pacemaker and leads removed by a surgeon at Buffalo General in mid May! They won’t be replacing his pacemaker as they determined his heart is functioning well enough on its own and the current pacemaker isn’t being utilized, less then 2% of the time! So that’s great news! However the procedure its self does come with risks as it involves the heart and arteries! But Dad is so tough and so strong he will get through this! Once we get through this hurdle, we then will figure out the course of treatment for Dads cancer! We have an extremely long road ahead of us, but with the continued support and prayers from everyone, it makes it that much easier to keep moving forwards!
Our Dad, Ed, is one of the strongest, most loving people we know. He has always put his family first, working hard to provide for us and showing kindness to everyone he meets. But now, he is facing the fight of his life against lung cancer, and we need your help!
In 2022, our world changed when Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. Despite undergoing radiation treatments, recent scans showed tumor growth, and his doctors are now recommending an ablation to help slow the progression as we have run out of any other options. He has been incredibly strong, but the emotional and financial burden of treatment is overwhelming.
On Tuesday, February 25th, Dad was getting a biopsy, and while in recovery, his lung collapsed and he had to have a chest tube. He was doing well for about 12 hours when he spiked a fever. Not long after that, we discovered that he had an infection in his blood. By Thursday, his lung began collapsing again, requiring a larger chest tube. The team at Roswell has been working around the clock to discover the source of the infection. They are going to be running additional tests that are risky to look at the back of the heart where the leads go to his pacemaker, which could be a possible source of the infection leaching onto. If it is discovered that the infection is in fact on his pacemaker, then he will have to have that replaced, and with his compromised immune system and his lung, it comes with extreme risk.
His ongoing care has placed a tremendous financial strain on our family with the extended stay from home. The lodging and out-of-pocket costs continue to add up. Your support will help cover:
✅ Travel expenses
✅ Everyday expenses while he focuses on recovery
Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference in his fight against cancer and allows us to be with him every step of the way.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with our Dad during this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity give us strength and hope.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and community. Your love, prayers, and support mean the world to us, and we are so grateful!
