Edouard Johnson was well known in the world of high fashion. A Washington, DC native, he presented his first collection in his hometown as a teenager and became one of the most sought after celebrity designers in the industry. In the earlier years, Edouard studied at the DC Teacher’s College in Washington, DC and continued his education at Howard University where he was awarded an Associate Degree in Public Speaking. His studies continued at the Paris Institute of Design in Paris, France. From that experience, Edouard enjoyed a career teaching Fashion Show Production, Apparel Manufacturing and Fashion Design at the Art Institute of Atlanta for several years. Edouard’s real journey began when he was introduced to Paul Mitchell, owner of Paul Mitchell hair products who utilized his talents in his show productions. During his years of traveling for Paul Mitchell, Edouard became well known for the elaborate fashion show productions he created around the world. Edouard’s productions were seen in the United States, London, Paris, Tokyo and the Caribbean Islands. This exposure made Edouard’s name popular among celebrities and he became in high demand for designing custom evening gowns for international superstars including Patti LaBelle, Phyllis Hyman and Lola Folana, just to name a few. Edouard attributes his career to a meeting with acclaimed designer Oscar de la Renta. Edouard loved Oscar de la Renta’s classic and timeless style as well as his use of texture. The experience inspired him to become one of the most sought after Haute Couture designers both nationally and internationally. Edouard designed a wedding gown for the personality Melissa Summers, the first African American female to be featured on the TV show, “Wedding of a Lifetime.” His fashions also hit the runway in New York City during the NBA All Star Weekend. Edouard continued to influence the fashion world with his elegant Diamond and Glitz Collection of high fashion Haute Couture evening gowns and enjoyed a private clientele in Atlanta, Georgia. Edouard took seriously ill in July of 2018, and he moved to Maryland with his Goddaughter Tameka and his long-time friend Joyce. He spent a great deal of time in the hospital and Rehabilitation Centers. On Sunday January 5, 2020, around 10:30 p.m. this Angel gained his wings. Due to Edouard's illness, he was not able to get life or burial insurance, and his finances were depleted. We have set up this "GoFundMe" site with hope that friends and family will assist in the burial expenses. Thank you and God bless.
