I have received six amazing applications for the Summer Youth Ministry Internship this year. This is a 10-week, paid internship, where we develop ministry and leadership skills, get event planning experience, do ministry, study, and pray in community. I hate asking for money. I would really prefer not to. But, I also want to provide a good ministry experience for the young people who are requesting it. So, it is for them that I ask. I would really like to be able to hire three interns this year. I need a total of $10,500 to make this happen, and only have $4000 in the budget.
Of the 21 interns we have trained since 2005, ten have served at various times as youth ministers; two are now priests, one is in seminary, and another one is a postulant. Four have gone on to serve in the Episcopal Service Corps. Many of them have come back to serve as adult volunteers or in other capacities for the Diocesan Youth Program and in their parish. The program supports our young people in their discernment and vocational experience and also gives back to the parishes of this diocese.
