Edna Brewer Middle School Woodshop
Donation protected
My name is Scott Corwin and I teach math at Edna Brewer Middle School in Oakland, California. I also enjoy wood working and often think about how important woodshop was to my educational experience in middle school as well as my general upbringing. It is my firm belief that my students will greatly benefit from a woodshop experience that will teach them skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. It is a shame that industrial arts programs have been cut from public education in such a dramatic way.
I hope to start the first woodshop class at Edna Brewer in several decades at the beginning of the new year. When I first considered starting a woodshop program at the school, I learned that all but one woodshop in the Oakland Unified School District have been closed. It turns out that the teacher of that woodshop has been extremely helpful in not only advice and motivation, but with tool donations as well. In fact, many folks in the community have gone out of their way to help start the program already.
At this point, I am looking to raise money for the many tools that we still need to safely create awesome projects made of wood. One of the more pricey power tools that I need to purchase for the shop is a planer. I will also use any money donated to purshace many hand tools, finishing products, hardware, lumber, and safety gear.
If you have the means to contribute to our woodshop, it would mean the world to me and my students. There is nothing more important to me than providing my students with a truly rewarding and exceptional education. Your donation will directly contribute to this ultimate goal.
Thank you so much!
