Editor & Designer, Carol's Book UNASSIMILATING

Donation protected
Hi! I'm Carol, and I've written a book. My book is called Unassimilating--here's a little bit about the book:

Unassimilating is a word I use to describe the moments I recognize the dominant culture at play, the moment I either decide to continue living that way because that way is what is most aligned with me or the moment I decide to choose differently. Unassimilating is when I begin to live on purpose instead of by default. This book is a collection of essays, poems, and reflections written and edited between 2020 and 2022 as the world reckoned with racial and social justice while surviving a global pandemic. In my professional life, I taught high school in person, then online, and then transitioned out of the classroom. At home, I was overcoming my fear of childbirth, getting pregnant, and then welcoming our first child into the world. Weaving between the world inside me and the world outside of me, this book highlights what I found to be the messy, uncomfortable, nonlinear, inspiring, beautiful, profound journey of Unassimilating from a dominant culture and choosing, instead, to remember the Truth of who I am, and choosing to walk the road to liberation.

My book is so close to finished and I'm so excited to get it into the hands of people who might find wisdom within its covers. Because I am self-publishing and don't have a book deal with a publishing house, there are a few things I need to do to get this book out into the world. I will need an editor and graphic designer to help me finalize the copy and create the book's final look. I am hoping for some help with funding these aspects of the book's journey. I am particularly focused on working with an editor whose practice is informed by social justice, intersectionality, and other concepts of liberation--I am not only wanting proofreading, I am wanting concept strengthening with my project, and I want to do this in collaboration with someone whose heart and thinking feel aligned with the pulse of my book. Once it is finished and available for purchase, I will send everyone who donates $33 or more a signed copy of the book.

Any help with funding this project would be so so so appreciated.

I have set a due date for my book for 11/11/2022, but as we know, due dates are not birth dates--the project may come a little later or a little earlier depending on everything that happens between now and then.
