More Information (Mom's Story):

Edith Joan Quesinberry (lovingly referred to as "Joan" or "E.J." as our father called her) passed suddenly on 27 May 2023 after a fast-moving bout with pneumonia and associated complications. In January mother fell while carrying her scriptures and magnifying glass and broke her left hip - she came through surgery at age 90 like a champ and then executed phenomenally in post-surgery rehabilitation before returning home in March where she continued to progress and achieve. Surprisingly, and unfortunately, she became ill with pneumonia and had to be emergency intubated, which she also recovered, and we believed was heading home in short form.

However, post-intubation while breathing independently, she began to once more have labored breathing and tragically, we were left to determine whether to have her re-intubated with a probable follow-on tracheotomy and peg tube and nursing home transition. In following her advance directive, which included doctor advisement, the very difficult decision was arrived at to permit our mother to pass peacefully and with dignity, which was a very difficult decision.

Having excitedly expressed to her she was getting better when she inquired as to whether she was dying, we were saddened to have later learned the getting better was not carrying over and our Mom overhead discussion and was lucid to ask, "What happened?" and "Why?" regarding the decision not to reintubate. So . . . with her presence of mind . . . I inquired and asked her to determine what she felt about re-intubation, an eventual tracheotomy, and then a peg tube. She answered simply, "No" while shaking her head from side to side.

By Heavenly Father's gracious consideration - time was available for family members to have the opportunity to share final words and sentiments to our blessed mother who provided tirelessly to each of us as our parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, and even great-, great-grandparent. Also, in her serving as a mother to many of our friends and their families, her nieces and nephews (who all have proceeded her in death), and that as a stalwart Christian woman of faith . . . Edith Joan Quesinberry remained loving and benevolent woman with an exceptional sense of humor . . . she loved to paint and create . . . and stood by her husband's side in life and will rest next to him in death.

This fundraiser is to aid us in ensuring Edith Joan Quesinberry's funeral expenses are met as we traverse two states for her final rest by our father's side in Walterboro South Carolina and lives here in the Southern Maryland area.
