Edin Musabegovic Hospitalized after a Hit and Run

Edin Musabegovic, my brother, but also a son, a husband, a father of two girls and a friend to many, was a victim of a hit and run on Sunday June 14th.

Edo was on his way home from NY, crossing the lower level of the George Washington Bridge, when his motorcycle was struck from behind at full speed.  He was knocked off the motorcycle and was subsequently run over by the person who hit him leaving his body riddled with injuries.  The person driving the car fled the scene and never even stopped to check on him.  He was left on the bridge drifting in and out of consciousness until someone thankfully alerted the authorities.  He was taken by ambulance to Hackensack Medical Center where he will be hospitalized for the foreseeable future.

As a result of this horrendous incident Edo has sustained multiple fractured ribs, his pelvis was shattered, his right eye was injured, and he has severe road rash on his arms, legs and back.  Even with all this, we are still so thankful that he was wearing his motorcycle gear and that the injury to his head was limited and that he is able to still be here with us.

Since being admitted to the hospital Edin has undergone multiple tests and treatments the most drastic being  a pelvic reconstruction surgery.  For over 7 hours doctors put his pelvis back together using multiple plates, screws and rods.  All this has been made even more difficult for him and his family since our contact with him has been greatly limited due to the current situation with the Covid pandemic.   We have not been able to give him the physical love and support that we know he currently needs. Even when he is well enough to leave the hospital, Edo will have to spend the next several weeks in a recovery center where he will receive rehabilitation and additional treatment.  At this point we are unsure how much contact we will have with him even then.

Although Edo currently has limited coverage, we are all concerned that the cost of his treatment and his rehabilitation will far exceed the insurance limitations.  Not only that, but Edo's road to recovery will be extremely long and hard.  It is expected that due to the severity of his injuries he will  not be able to walk and will be wheel chair bound for at least four months.  Even after, a full recovery is not expected for years and he will be recovering for quite sometime.   His income has already been greatly affected by Covid, and this horrifying situation has made everything much, much worse.

All the people that know my brother know that he is not the one to ask for help.  In response to an overwhelming amount of community support, we as a family have decided to organize this fundraiser on his behalf.   We want to ease Edo's pain and help him focus on his healing instead of worrying about his future.

All funds received will be used to alleviate the financial strain brought on by Edo’s treatment.   A portion of the money will be used to cover any remaining medical bills as well as make the necessary adjustment to his home in order to accommodate his medical needs, ie making the home wheelchair accessible, renting a hospital bed etc.  The remainder will go to pay for Edo's living expenses after he is going through rehabilitation as it is expected that he will be severely disabled for at least 6 months after leaving the hospital and will not be able to work.
His wife Mila Arsovska, who will be receiving all of Edo's bills and will be the main care taker after Edo leaves the rehabilitation center will be the assigned benefactor and will together with Edo allocate the money accordingly.

Any donation, big or small, is deeply and sincerely appreciated. If you are unable to donate, we ask that you please pray for his recovery and share the link to this cause.
