Edie's Emergency Care Bill

Donation protected

Jac met Edie on July 22nd while on a movie set in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was love at first sight - everyone who witnessed their interaction immediately noticed the connection and commented "She is yours! You belong together!"

I received a video of Edie on July 24th without any context. I knew that was it. Edie was officially rescued and coming home to Brooklyn! Shortly after arriving to her new home, we planned our first play date and spent the day by the water in Dumbo running around, visiting shops, taking A LOT of photos and ended the day at their apartment - her new home.

August 20th, one week later, Edie got into insect bait and immediately fell ill. Edie was immediately taken to Verg Veterinary Emergency Care in Gowanus where she was treated for poisoning. Heartbroken and concerned, I waited impatiently for updates from Jac.

Edie received charcoal treatment and IV treatment and was kept overnight. With concerns about her liver, they started discussing a blood transfusion. The following day, the vet called saying her bloodwork was compromised. She was responding well but her vitals are concerning. Through testing they also discovered she has Leptospirosis, which is a bacterial infection that spreads through the bloodstream. Canine leptospirosis can be a serious, life-threatening disease. They started treatment right away, while closely monitoring her vitals. At this point, her kidney/liver values went up. They inserted a catheter the next two nights to try and help relieve pressure on her organs.

A painful 5 nights later, we receive news that she IS GETTING BETTER. It's still unclear when she will be released but the vet confirmed she will no longer need dialysis while mentioning, "We are all big fans of Edie Lou."

After 5 nights in Emergency Care, the bill has now reached $18,000. Insurance doesn't start until September and because she was adopted, there is no insurance covered during this time period. On behalf of my dear friend Jac, I am sharing this story in hopes that we can help contribute something, anything, to help cover the emergency care she received. I plan on visiting Edie later today to check in on her and see how she is doing and will continue to update this page with photos as she progresses.

I am absolutely heartbroken for my dear friend and cannot imagine ever having to go through this with Scarlett. If anyone can contribute $1, $20 - anything and everything will help. I know this has been a tough past 2 years for many, so if you are unable to contribute please send prayers and positive energy for baby Edie. She has a long life ahead of her and we are NOT giving up on her. She is tough just like her mother.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this! I appreciate any form of help and love you can give.

All my love,

Sara
