We lost Edgar unexpectedly on Friday, September 26, 2020, the cause of death yet unknown. He is gone much too soon, having just turned 39 earlier this month, and this untimely loss is being felt acutely by his surviving family, especially, his young daughter, Carolina, age 10, mother, Rosa, and brothers, Romeo and Juan Carlos, and Carolina's mother, Kyla.
Edgar Rolando Leonor was the kindest of souls, gentle, perceptive and good natured. To know him was to befriend him, a trait that he passed onto his very sociable daughter, Carolina. She also inherited his fortitude. Edgar had made the arduous journey from his home in Zaragoza, El Salvador to the United States as a teenager in 2000, with his uncle as a companion and little else. He had hoped to make a living to support his mother, father and brothers, and then return home.
Always industrious, he found a steady job working at a furniture store in Gaithersburg, Maryland, alongside his cousins. While working at the furniture store he met Kyla, and they quickly fell in love--a relationship helped along by Edgar having learned English from tv and movies. They married in 2006 and were blessed in 2010 with a daughter, who was the love of her father's life. He was a doting father, and in her early childhood "Coco" and her Papa enjoyed frequent outings to restaurants, parks, movies, the mall, and, at least monthly, the National Zoo. He was not much of a disciplinarian and had few qualms about spoiling her entirely with sweets, treats and too many stuffed animals, which annoyed her mother, but endeared him to his daughter, who loved him immensely. Circumstances eventually compelled him to Massachusetts, and they saw each other less often, but Edgar could be relied upon to call regularly and chat with his "bebita," and send a multitude of sweet cards. He was delighted by the arrival of Carolina's half-brother Gus, whom he patiently let jabber away on the phone, too. He also remained in touch with many of Kyla's family after their divorce, which is a testament to the loyal and amiable person that he was.
It was a great regret of his that he was not able to return to El Salvador before his father's death in 2019. At the time of his own death, Edgar was making plans to return to El Salvador to see his beloved mother Rosa and his younger brother, Romeo. It is our plan to complete his homecoming in death.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to cover immediate costs of his cremation, local memorial service, and then to bring him home to his mother in El Salvador. Any remaining funds will be used to support his mother and family and the care and education of his daughter.
