Cancer Sux

Hello, I'm Beverly Torrez-Petty and I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 days after my 48th birthday. Which was also the day after my sister passed away from stage 4 bone cancer. She was originally diagnosed with breast cancer which she fought and beat, but unfortunately it came back, and while they were treating her for the bone cancer, they found spots on her liver as well. We have a rare genetic mutation of the BRCA 1 gene, that is responsible for producing proteins that fight cancer and tumors. We were born with it, it's in our DNA so honestly, it was just a matter of time. My dad passed away in 09 from lung cancer, also, my aunt (dad's sister) and grandma (dad's mom) was taken by this awful disease.

I decided 22 years ago to follow my passion and become a chef and unfortunately, that means no medical insurance through my work. I've worked primarily for small family owned restaurants, which I prefer, but again, it comes with it's negatives as well. Another downfall is that I live about a half hour from the closest cancer for my treatment. Honestly, I am not sure how people afford to have cancer, but the medical bills are already starting to pile up. I. Not one to ask for help, but this isn't something I can't do myself. If you can't help, I understand, life is hard these days, but maybe you can share this for me?
