Ed: A Film by Ally Downs
Who Am I?
I'm Ally Downs, a Daytime Emmy-Winning Producer, Actress and Screenwriter. I grew up in Ohio and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue my dream of becoming an actress, landing my first gig on Days of Our Lives. After working on various TV shows/movies, I became a Producer of various network shows and in 2002 I won a Daytime Emmy for producing a documentary on the amazing chef, Wolfgang Puck.I love everything about the entertainment business and being in front of and behind the camera.
What Am I Raising Money For?
We are raising money in order to make my film script 'Ed' into a reality. 'Ed' is a story of hope, finding the courage to try new things, and finding love no matter what your age may be. The film is based loosely on a true story about my father-in-law, Alfred Mekelburg, MD. He was such an amazing man and I started writing this film as a healing process after he passed away.
The main character, Ed, is a handsome, elderly widower who is a bit grumpy, but has a certain unmistakeable charm about him. Throughout his journey he finds love and new friends at a time when it seemed impossible. One of Ed's friends is Angela, a kind, trustworthy , no-nonsense woman who comes to apply for a job as his assistant.
We are lucky enough to have Jazmyn Simon (from the hit TV series 'Ballers') playing the part of Lisa, a spunky, beautiful caregiver for Al's love interest, Alice. She helps Alice to let go of her fears and take a leap of faith when it comes to matters of her heart.
When the story begins, Ed has just lost his driver's license and with that a part of his identity and his sense of independence. Ed's housekeeper, Maria, and Ed’s son, Peter, feel it is best to bring in an assistant to help Ed with various parts of his life, such as going to the Balance clinic, errands, and providing company for him. At first, Ed and Angela just don't click, but soon the two develop a relationship that is honest and uplifting, giving each other the courage to live their lives to the fullest. However, Ed is soon delivered some news that will change his life forever...
How Will The Money Be Used?
Every penny donated will go toward the production and post-production costs of 'Ed'.
When Do We Need Funding?
I would love to have the money raised by July 31st so that we can start production in September.
I'm so grateful to have had such an amazing father-in-law and I would be so very grateful for anything you could contribute towards making my short film happen. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
