Eddie's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you know by now, I am fighting a battle with kidney disease. Over time, my kidney disease has gotten worse causing my kidneys not to work well enough to keep me alive much longer. This is what I am facing now, and my treatment options will soon be limited to dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant.
Getting regular dialysis treatments, usually three times a week for four hours at a time, will help my kidneys do their job and keep me alive, but a transplant would offer me more freedom and the ability to live a longer, healthier, more normal life. A transplant would also give me more time to do the fun things I enjoy the most, like spending time with my family and friends, working with my incredible students, and starting my own family with my beautiful wife.
However, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney, as I soon will be. Time is not on our side. Some wait for years and sadly many die while waiting. The average wait time is five years or more for a kidney from a deceased donor. I have also been told that this surgery will cost $300,000 to $600,000 just for the initial procedure, and that doesn't cover the lifetime of prescriptions, doctor visits, and future transplants I will need. The hospital has estimated that in order to financially survive this surgery, I will need at least $5,000 out of pocket to cover expenses and for my wife and I to start pre-paying or paying off a few bills (mostly medical that are looming) so that we're in a good place before the big day comes.
At this time, due to the amount of work I have missed because of illness, and the amount of time that I will be missing because of my illness this upcoming year, my wife and I are try to build a fund that could help cover the costs before transplant, and even during transplant. Because of my loss of wages and soon to be more we are suffering to pay our household expenses, medical bills from January and February, and soon to be all of the bills coming at us monthly from nonstop testing.
We have committed to tithing every dollar that comes in. That means for every dollar that comes in, 10% of that will go to Jesus. I know many may not agree with this, but I feel that without Jesus we wouldn't be able to have awesome friends and family to ask for this blessing.
I may be a year or so out from transplant, but the medical expenses, loss of salary, and all that goes with it have begun already. I am, again, reluctantly, asking for people to volunteer and say "I'll help you" (which I hate to hear most of all) and donate toward my kidney transplant.
I hate asking for help and I hate that I have to inconvenience the ones I love - regardless of the level. Yet, here we are - asking for money to pay our simple medical bills so that we can face down the big ones when they come at us.
I will never forget everything anyone has done for us to save my life. No matter your donation (money, kidney, prayer) you are a part of the team that is SAVING my life.
We love you all,
Eddie & Jessica Hall
