Hi everyone! My name is Melanie. I have volunteered at MDAS since 2021. Considering an increase in academic responsibilities, my family and I have taken on fostering.

Currently, we are fostering Edda. Edda is a 6-year- old boxer mix who arrived at Miami Dade Animal Services as a stray. Back in 2020, Edda was surrendered to the shelter, adopted for one day, and then brought back. Shortly after, she went home with a “dedicated foster”. Years passed and Edda found herself again at the shelter in February 2025. When Edda came back from the shelter she was in horrible shape- she was underweight, filthy, and had a skin condition.

While at the shelter, Edda became overweight and her mobility became incredibly limited. She was known for yelling due to pain and had a constant limp. Shortly after leaving the shelter, we found a benign tumor on her tongue. Although Edda is doing much better while being in foster care, we want to continue providing her with the medical care and testing she may need.

Edda has brought so much love into our lives. Edda loves her fluffy foster siblings, eating, exploring new areas, pop music, and being wrapped in a blanket.
