Dear Friends,
I hate cancer. We all have lost too many loved ones to this disgusting disease. I won't lose one more.
This is Ed Kaufman. He and his wife Sandi are my best friends. Ed was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neck and Throat cancer. This cancer is a twisted piece of work because my dear Ed is a chef who may lose his ability to taste and swallow. It may also prohibit him from speaking and smiling. Ed always smiles. Always. He's one of the kindness and most generous human beings I've ever known.
I'm asking for your support today because although Sandi and Ed have Medicare insurance, many of the treatments will not be covered fully. The chemotherapy drugs are outrageously expensive with Medicare paying only a portion of the cost, oral care isn't covered (this type of cancer is havoc on teeth and mouth) and Ed is unable to work because he will be in the oncology chair 5 days a week for 6 hours a day for months. Chemo and radiation treatments are in his future for the next 4 -6 months.
He will be required to eat special foods that will help maintain his weight (the average patient with this type of cancer loses 1 pound per week of treatment). He may have to have a G-Tube surgically implanted in his stomach so keep him fed and hydrated. This special pureed food is not covered under his health plan.
It is a wretched disease that casts ripples upon the water of every day lives in unexpected ways.
Please help me raise funds to pay for Ed's medical care. I will keep you updated on his treatment and his progress. Ed would like to say hello to you and will chat with you on Facebook, if you like. Like I said, he's a nice man.
Your good wishes and financial assistance is appreciated more than you can ever imgaine.
Thank you. Peace. Love. Health.
Pam
