Eli Mayes is the 9 year old son of Jason and Libby Mayes of Chandler, Indiana. Jason is a teacher at Luce Elementary and the coach of South Spencer High School's girls basketball team. Eli went to the ER November 22 with hip and back pain. He was admitted to the hospital so they could run more tests to try to figure out what was causing his pain. Monday, November 23 the doctors decided to transfer Eli to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis for more testing. Tuesday morning Eli was diagnosed with B cell leukemia. The family learned that treatment would begin on Wednesday, with a port being put in so chemotherapy could begin immediately. They will be staying at Riley for about 2 weeks (including Thanksgiving) and then the family will be traveling back and forth for treatment. They expect it to be a 3 year process.
