My Story:
A Cry for Help in the Darkness

Just days before the war shattered our lives, peace and hope filled our home, My father left on an urgent medical trip with my nephew, whose life was at risk due to a medical mistake, By allah’s grace, my nephew recovered and was set to return with my father on October 8th. But fate had other plans.

The borders were closed, and my father was trapped outside Gaza, unable to return to his family who needed him the most, He reached out to several international organizations, including the Red Cross, seeking help, but no one heard him, We were left alone, without a father, without shelter, and without hope.

An Endless Displacement

Our suffering didn't stop there, My elder brother, Kamal, was arrested while trying to seek refuge in a school after our home in Beit Hanoun was completely destroyed, It was a home where we once lived in peace, surrounded by love, A week later, his wife gave birth to their third daughter, Habiba, My brother never saw her, and she never felt the warmth of his embrace.

Now, my brother’s family lives in deep despair. His wife struggles to care for their two daughters and newborn, alone. They live in extreme poverty, without any source of income, Little Habiba has no milk to drink, and her frail body grows weaker with each passing day. Who will feed her? Who will soothe her hunger cries?

These pictures are before the war.

The Pain of Loss and Displacement

As for us, we have been displaced time and time again, fleeing from the constant bombardment from Beit Hanoun to Jabaliya, to Gaza City, to Rafah, to Khan Younis, to Nuseirat, and now to Deir al Balah.
Each time, we hoped to find safety, only to be forced to leave again. Now we live in a temporary tent by the sea, facing cold winds and heavy rain under a tattered piece of fabric.

Our warm and happy home is now a pile of rubble and ash. My father, still trapped outside Gaza, continues to file request after request to return and care for his family of 14, Every request is rejected. My mother, suffering from heart disease and spinal problems, grows weaker with each day, My younger siblings, still students, bear the burden of survival far beyond their years.

This is our house before the war.

And, this is after it was destroyed by the occupation.

A Dream Shattered

And me? My name is Khetam Al-Masri. I’m 20 years old, from Beit Hanoun. I graduated from high school with a 97.3% score in the scientific track. I dreamed of becoming a doctor in a world that only knows pain. But the war stole that dream from me. Without financial support, I cannot continue my education or escape this endless cycle of suffering.

These are my photos when I was studying at Palestine University before the war.
