Ed Kirsch's Covid-19 Medical Expenses
Donation protected
For those of you that haven't heard, my sister, Brittany Kirsch, and her family recently contracted Covid-19. Not only has this been tough on them physically, it is also wearing on them emotionally and financially. Ed, who is very healthy and has no pre-existing conditions, has been having some pretty severe complications from the virus.
A few weeks ago, Ed and Brittany both started to show Covid symptoms of fever, chills, and a cough before things took a turn for the worse. On January 29, Brittany brought Ed to urgent care where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. They sent Ed home with some medications and asked him to monitor the situation.
Then, two days later, Brittany rushed Ed to the ER because his blood oxygen levels were below 90% and he was having trouble breathing. At the ER they performed an x-ray and discovered that his pneumonia had spread to both lungs. Ed was discharged with some additional medication and the medical team was hopeful that he would be on his way to recovery.
Unfortunately, another two days later, Ed was again rushed to the ER where they discovered Ed's lungs had 50% more fluid than the previous x-ray. The medical team quickly realized that Ed needed to be admitted for a 5 day Inpatient hospital stay to get Ed on a steady oxygen supply and to administer a more aggressive treatment plan.
As you can imagine, it's been a tough couple of days for Ed and Brittany. The stress of Ed being hospitalized is compounded with the fact that Britt is still recovering from her own Covid symptoms while she is 6 months pregnant! While they have health insurance, they will also have unanticipated out of pocket medical expenses from the urgent care, emergency room, and Inpatient hospital care.
I know many have been asking how they can help so here are some ways that you can best love on my sister and her family:
1. Please pray for them and pray that Ed would have complete healing and be able to come home on Sunday.
2. Please send a note of encouragement to them. Ed is alone in the hospital with no visitors allowed so I know your messages to him and Brittany would mean a lot.
3. Please consider contributing to this GoFundMe to help reduce the burden of the out of pocket medical expenses.
Thank you,
Tina Atkinson
