Ed is home now and feeling better but still has a long way to go.
Last Monday, after getting out of the shower, he experienced severe chest, back and leg pain. He also couldn't breathe. After rushing him to a local ER, he was transferred to a trauma hospital, MUSC. His BP had skyrocketed, and tests showed that he had torn the lining of his aorta. Surgery was immediate after he lost all feeling in his right leg. Vascular surgery repaired the aorta with a 20" stint and two mesh stints in the groin. ICU took good care of him, and he gradually weaned off the IVs to oral medication. EXCEPT: He developed a blood infection requiring six weeks of daily infusions. Some of the hospital and doctor costs will be covered by Medicare. Unfortunately, the deductible for the hospital alone is $1,500. He doesn't have prescription coverage, so nine pills orally and the daily infusion alone is $100.00 per day. We can use all the financial help we can get. The estimated cost of his medical care will be well over $30,000. Any and all help, will be appreciated.
