Ed Grant-Kids Education Fund

Edmund Howard Grant III, my bother-in-law, friend, and frankly one of the best people to walk the earth, suffered a sudden fatal heart attack last Friday night, December 1st, 2017.  He was participating in one of his long time passions, ice hockey.

His friends are countless - whether stemming from his High School days at Fenwick (’86), his college days at Miami of Ohio (’90), residing in Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale, coaching, swimming, softball, hockey, working alongside him during his life-long career at Accenture, or elsewhere.  Together with his wife, my sister Karen (Hinsdale Central ’86), they are one of the most beloved couples I know.  When I meet someone new, I can't count how many times they light up when they realize I'm Karen Grant's brother.  Inevitably, that realization is followed up with glowing comments about the Grant family, how fun and genuine they are, and how generous they are for so many causes.

His greatest achievement, though, comes from his role as a father.  Through his and Karen's incredible devotion to each other and their children, they've raised three incredible kids - Katie, Eddie, and Mary.  I've had the honor, as have many of you, to get to know them well, what a treat.  I could type a novel about them, but this isn't the place.

This is a big loss.  Even with 4 brothers, 2 sisters, in-laws, both sets of parents, incredible friends and neighbors doing everything they can to help, there will always be a big hole that Ed once filled with his good nature, humor, hard work; and love of life, family, and friends.

Many have asked if they can donate to the education of the children.  The Grant Children Education Fund has been established at the Clarendon Hills Bank, 200 Burlington Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514.  Donations can also be made through this Go Fund Me Link.  All money raised will be transferred to the bank fund.  There will be donation envelopes at the funeral home and church.

A visitation will be held from 3-9pm on Friday, December 8th at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 South Grant Street, Hinsdale, IL 60521.  The Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, December 9th at Notre Dame, 64 Norfolk Ave, Clarendon Hills IL 60514.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Grant Children Education Fund.
