Bearcat Nation, one of our own desperately needs your support.

Edwyn Brown, a defensive back in the Bearcat football program was admitted to MOSAIC Medical Center in early November after feeling ill for a few days.  While there his condition deteriorated rapidly, and it was determined that he needed to be transferred to St. Joseph.  After five days in St. Joseph things continued to worsen, so the decision was made to fly him to St. Louis for further intensive and diagnostic care. He spent 7 weeks in ICU with few answers.  Finally he has been moved to a standard room where his family can see him more readily.  Slowly he is making improvements, thanks to the support of his family and friends, but it will continue to be a long journey.

Over the course of Ed's illness he has endured a multitude of frightening issues.  He suffered from clots in his brain, both lungs collapsed, the inability to use his arms and legs, and required a feeding tube and ventilator to just name a few.

During this time he as had multiple spinal taps, MRI's, CT scans and xrays to try and determine a cause for his issues.  When that turned up inconclusive he began a battery of auto immune and genetic testing in an attempt to determine what he was battling.   At the moment we can only estimate cost he and his family will endure, but to date it is over one million dollars.

Edwyn has had to endure things most of us could never imagine, but his strength and spirit continue to shine through.  His family has been with him every step of the way.  Each day Ed is attacking rehab.  He is getting strength back in his legs, and is finally able to eat on his own. Yet every day is a battle, and he and his family need our support.   As he continues to progress, he will be transferred to the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago where he will spend a minimum of four weeks for intensive rehabilitation.

The New Year marks the third Holiday the Brown's have spent in a hospital at the side of their son.  Encouraging, pushing, praying, and loving.   Their family has demonstrated an incredible resolve to battle whatever obstacles are placed in front of them.  However his journey to recovery is only beginning, and will required vast amounts of time and resources.  We stand behind Ed and his family in this battle, and hope to help them in any way possible.  We are asking for your support in raising at least $50,000 to help offset some of the financial burden.
