Ed Balodis TBI Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On July 4, 2022, Ed Balodis had an accidental fall outside his home, resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Thanks to the heroic immediate efforts of his wife Debi, and first responders on the scene, Ed was revived and rushed to MetroHealth where he underwent life-saving care.
Doctors soon confirmed Ed's injury was comparable to that of a high-speed car accident. The first 24 hours left the Balodis family hoping and praying for his life.
Ed remained in a coma state for over a week before he finally opened his eyes and began to show signs of responsiveness. After multiple scans and tests in the ICU, doctors informed the Balodis family that there was hope for a meaningful recovery, albeit a long and unpredictable road.
Since that time, Ed and his family have been navigating a long-term recovery journey that requires well over a year of intensive care and potentially a lifetime of in-home support.
On top of the immense grief of this tragedy, the Balodis family is also navigating very challenging territory with available care providers, insurance red tape and out-of-pocket costs.
To date, Ed has managed to make strides in his recovery, but Ohio lacks the level of TBI care he requires. Ed is currently receiving specialized care at an out-of-state facility, but due to insurance policies, a large portion of his current and future care will come with steep out-of-pocket costs.
We are seeking donations to help supplement healthcare costs for Ed and his family.
Sincerely,
The Balodis Family
